Banished Modding Group
  • Great attempt for a bit of organization.
Im not sure about the BCG part though until we know how code can be implemented trough the modding kit.

The term "image library" sounds more like a place for textures and stuff which might go into the modellers group so i'd call that something like "ideas and requests".
  • so if I understand well to make a mod I don't have to work on single files, but i can use mod kit at all?
    except for grafic part obviously

however I support your project!! surely I can do test
  • @graphite: I had that devblog in mind when I wrote my thoughts ;)
I agree on the part with visualized ideas, but the ideas in this forum are posted in many different posts so I think we still need one "collection post" for these, maybe text and image combined, until we can get a subcategory in the forums for that.
  • @SirAiedail

You’re absolutely right, and this would be the ideal situation. It would be wonderful to have the OP’s and all the suggestions that expand on the original idea, along with graphical contributions by the community all in one place.

When I wrote the original post I was thinking that we would also need a [BMCG] Banished Mod Coordinators Group to coordinate all the ideas, but refrained for fear of getting flamed ;)

This group would also be responsible for keeping the community informed as to what mods are being worked on, which ones are under consideration etc. Internally devising methods to control who’s working on what mod, what stage it’s at etc. Correlate the feedback from beta testers, and of course get the mods out to the community via Steam Workshop, Mod DB, Nexus etc. and monitor community feedback on any unexpected issues that may arise.

I know it’s asking a lot from the community, but the hope is that Banished will continue to grow and perhaps one day become the vision Luke had for it ;)

    @ananke
If I understand your question correctly, then yes that is right ;)
  • wonderful...so we can mod game only using mod kit...that's easier!
  • I think when it comes down to hosting on Steam Workshop, Nexus, etc. it's up to the modders themselfes. And those sites already have a decent organization for feedback and things like that.

But I agree that we'll need a group of people making some sort of summary as not everybody will upload his mod to all of the possible communities.
The hardest part about this group would definitely be sorting out the right people for such a highly responsible job.

I hope Luke will help the organization by creating some subcategories for our purposes (and moderators to minimize those spambots :D ) after he finished coding the modding kit.
  • RE Forum; I agree, and in its current state the SRS forums are just not a suitable platform.

The alternatives would be to approach the good folk over at www.worldofbanished.com, who take pride in having an informative, friendly and spam free website. At worst I have a redundant website that has served its purpose and is currently idle, that I could reformat to suit our needs.

But at the moment we don’t seem to be getting much traction on the concept, apart from yourself and Ananke. Which is sad, but not unexpected.

I do this in my spare time for the fun of modelling and the passion I have for the game, not to mention playing god within Unity and the Cry3 SDK … lol, and I love exploring …

I just bought Marmosets image based lighting system which I’m looking forward to having a play with tonight, but only after I finalize the implementation of the camera script and colliders for the web player. Hmmm … might be tomorrow night before I play with Marmoset ;) But no matter which way this coin flips, I’ll continue along my merry way developing “The Blackwood Mod” assets, and hopefully hook up with a C++ programmer with a similar passion ;)
  • i wish to do more but the problem is : i dont how to program, neither i m good in graphics...

    i m kinda ... useless ^^
  • @Redketchup,

stop it Red, I'm still laughing at the other post ;)

How about some modelling? We will guide you through the process and start you off with something simple ... like the Notre-Dame Cathedral lol ... fences walls etc.

    or some beta testing perhaps?
  • lol Notre-Dame Cathedral

btw Milly ... was always singing that song ...

Good Golly Miss Milly, sure like to ball
Good Golly, Miss Milly, sure like to ball
When you're rockin' and a millin', can't hear your momma call
  • I think, time will show which forum to use...
And hopefully modders will speak up when the kit is up and running.

Yeah, modelling something like fences is fairly easy, just give it a try, @RedKetchup. And with some practice, Notre-Dame is right around the corner :D

I'm not that deep into C++, but depending on how scripts will be supported/implemented, I might give coding a try ;)
  • @RedKetchup

    LOL ... perhaps

Good Golly Miss Milly, sure like to GRIND ;)
  • @SirAiedail

Absolutely, just around the corner lol
  • I would love to try and create models for Banished.
  • Would be a good place to get the feet wet. Nothing demanding in the models or textures. Just remember to model to real world scale and all should be good ;)
  • I'd like to see this happen. I don't know anything about modding, but I've been wanting to learn for a while now, and this seems like a really good opportunity. I was planning on just fiddling with things until I figured it out. Lol!
  • In January 2015 I'm going to New England Tech to learn game design. My experience with programming is limited but I want to try my hand at modding. I'll check out the other sites I've found suggested on this forum. There is sure to be people who can show me the ropes.
  • One of my 2015 resolutions is to launch a mod – hopefully on the scale and caliber of Colonial Charter – for designing and doing test-runs of present-day resilient communities.

This will involve creating custom 3D buildings – especially rustic 'tiny house' designs such as http://is.gd/3dmodl – along with greenhouses, square foot gardens, solar panels, wind turbines, 3D print makerspaces, etc.

Are there experienced Banished 3D modders here that I might engage for this project? I'd like to start with a small number of the above items, create a video clip, and launch a Kickstarter or Indiegogo campaign in the next 6-8 weeks.

    Welcome your suggestions and inputs!
  • So does the modding group exist yet? I would love to be able to try and create custom buildings etc but have absolutely no idea about programming. Although I have read the description with the mod kit umpteen times I just don't know what it all means. However, even with the modelling I am stuck as I just don't know what measurements to use in 3DS Max for banished models. Is there a website that takes you through the modelling perquisites step by step? I'm just a beginner at this. Thanks.
  • i answered your question on world of banished forum. (and i didnt here nor banishedMods forum ^^) so go check there what i answered hehe.
